Public Servant. Proven Leader.

Meet Dave

Dave Dawson’s story begins in Washta, Iowa, where his parents worked together in the family agricultural business.

After graduating from Iowa State University and law school, Dave worked in Chicago’s legal sector for three years before returning home in 2002 to serve as a prosecutor in the Woodbury County Attorney’s Office.

For nearly two decades, he has prosecuted drug dealers, sex offenders, and child abusers, and has twice argued and won cases before the Iowa Supreme Court to protect vulnerable children and strengthen Iowa families.

In 2012, Dave was elected to the Iowa House of Representatives, where he earned a reputation for bipartisan problem-solving. He served on key committees including Public Safety, Commerce and Human Resources, and worked across party lines to pass legislation that protected public safety, strengthened Iowa businesses, and supported Iowa families.

Dave has also been deeply involved in his community, serving on nonprofit boards for child abuse prevention, disability services, and anti-poverty programs. He’s been a coach, a church elder, and a proud AFSCME union member since 2003.
