Sioux City Journal: Dave Dawson set to become nominee in Fourth Congressional District primary
SIOUX CITY — Democrat Dave Dawson bested two opponents to earn his party’s nomination for Iowa’s Fourth Congressional District Tuesday.
With nearly all precincts in the 36-county district reporting, Dawson, a Woodbury County prosecutor and former two-term state representative, held a nine point lead over both small livestock producer Stephanie Steiner of Sutherland and former educator Ashley WolfTornabane of Storm Lake.
The sprawling district, which covers large swaths of western and north central Iowa, is the state’s largest by size and most conservative.
Dawson, a Lawton resident, outpaced his fellow candidates in unofficial results for 22 counties including Audubon, Carroll, Cherokee, Crawford, Dickinson, Emmet, Franklin, Fremont, Hamilton, Hancock, Ida, Kossuth, Lyon, Marshall, Monona, Osceola, Palo Alto, Plymouth, Pottawattamie, Sioux, Story and Woodbury.
“I was working hard to fight for issues that people care about in the district, including making sure we have affordable, accessible healthcare, including making sure we keep our rural hospitals and nursing homes open,” Dawson told The Journal Tuesday night.
